Dublin Plein Air 2018 Workshops

You can join these workshops to learn and improve your painting technics. This year as every year, we have some masters of their art and our plein air artists will share their tips of the trade with you during the workshops.

Norman Teeling Workshop 2018

 

Norman Teeling is one of Ireland’s leading impressionist painters and has been painting plein air for the past 40 years. Born in Dublin Ireland, Teeling graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin with a degree in Fine Art.

Norman Teeling is a master of his craft, has published a number of books on painting and is a truly wonderful tutor who freely gives of his time and experience. There are many artists both part timers and professionals who would benefit from one of his workshops.

Sunny Apinchapong Workshops 2018

 

Sunny is one of California’s most celebrated impressionist and plein air painters. He is internationally recognised and is represented by many galleries. Exhibitions include shows at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Moreseburg Gallery and the Oriel Gallery, Dublin, Ireland. He has also worked for several animation studios such as Disney, Dreamworks, Sony, Don Bluth.

Sunny is a Signature Member of California Art Club and also a member of Oil Painters of America. We are very lucky to have Sunny for the 2018 Dublin Plein Air painting festival and his workshops will be very instructive for all those who attend. He has a large student following in America and we expect it to be no different when he visits us here in June.

Dave West Workshop 2108

 

Dave West is gifted across a number of media, his pastels are recognised internationally and his plein air oil paintings tempting the visual senses with the atmosphere he creates in his work. He has been teaching for many years in both mediums.

Dave was born in Wales and is now settled North County Dublin. He studied at the Carmarthenshire College of Art & Design. His solo exhibitions including ‘Nocturama’ at Draiocht Arts Centre, ‘Spectral’ at the Leinster Gallery and 2 with the Blue Leaf Gallery. He has exhibited widely in Group Shows including the Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Ulster Academy and Eígse, and in the UK with the Royal West of England Academy, Royal Society of Oil Painters, Royal Society of Marine Artists, The New English Art Club, The Royal Society of British Artists, and the UK Pastel Society, at which he won the 2013 Schminke Award.

Kate Kos Watercolour Workshop 2018

 

Kate Kos is an artist with a sublime touch for clean and fresh colours, which produce wonderful paintings. For all the watercolour painters in Ireland this is one workshop you should not miss!

A Polish born artist based in Ireland. She has tried a range of media but kept coming back to watercolor which she loves for its fluidity and unpredictable results. Her watercolor paintings can be described as bold and fresh. Kate’s paintings can be found in private collections around the world and has won multiple awards including first prize in Artfest, a competition that was held in Gorey in 2013 and silver award in Art in The Open in 2015.

John Dinan Workshop

 

 

John Dinan has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading art teachers, and runs an annual programme of painting workshops in many locations, both in Ireland and in Europe. He has been represented in many of Ireland’s leading galleries for nearly forty years.
His paintings reflect his interest in strong shapes and colours, and his work is held in corporate and private collections in many countries, including Ireland, USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy and New Zealand.
He has been a prize-winner in the annual Wexford Plein Air Painting festival.

Blaise Smith H.R.H.A Workshop

Wednesday 21st June – Skerries

Blaise Smith has painted outdoors for many years and is known for his focus on the vernacular sheds and farmyards of the Irish country side. His paintings, up to eight feet wide, are painted on the spot over months and years and many are now in national collections such as the OPW and various County Councils. He recently completed a five metre (16 foot) wide panorama of Waterford City which now hangs in the City & County Hall. He also really enjoys the challenge of painting small landscapes in one sitting.
He is an elected member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and teaches at the RHA drawing School where he is Vice Principal.

Jock Nichol Workshop

Thursday 22nd June – Malahide

Jock Nichol is a Scottish artist who regards the great outdoors as his studio. His preference is for forest scenes and shows a great patients in waiting for those fleeting chinks of sunlight coming through the branches. His speciality is acrylic paints and his workshop will concentrate on using these outdoors. Jock has lived for many years in county Offaly where he works and teaches.

Friday 23rd June – Naul

For the past fifteen years of tutoring Henry has gained an intense understanding of painting from observation with oils. At the forthcoming Dublin Plein Air festival Henry will talk about avoiding hesitation when starting and allowing the early brushstrokes on the painting to lead you to the next stage of the painting. He will demonstrate the importance of getting the composition right and how “Observation” is the key to a beautiful painting. Having studied art in Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design. He started working with O’Sullivan Bluth Animation in Dublin. He went to Phoenix, Arizona in 1995, where he worked for 20th Century Fox Studios. He furthered his career whilst in Arizona by studying oil painting under the tuition of renowned American artists such as Josjua Fallik and Diane Leonard.
